I was recently reminded of a time when I wrote a few blogs for UTSA. In March 2020, higher education experienced a seismic shift. All faculty, staff, and students shifted to remote learning because of the COVID 19 pandemic. Like many, I was teaching a face-to-face course that had to be redesigned for an online environment. These were stressful times for everyone involved, and I was leading the teaching and learning department at the time. I felt it was necessary to help reassure faculty during this difficult moment. Empathy, compassion, meeting students where they are, and giving yourself and your students a break are still important. Not just during stressful times, but all the time.
